Projekt „Dear Photograph“ je osmislio Kanađanin Taylor Jones, kada je na svom blogu postavio nekoliko obiteljskih fotografija. Na ideju je došao pregledavajući album sa starim fotografijama, gdje je zatekao i fotografiju snimljenu u sobi u kojoj je upravo sjedio. Njegov brat snimljen na fotografiji sjedio je na istom mjestu kao i tada, što je nagnalo Taylora da podigne fotografiju i snimi je.

Uskoro je napravio web stranicu i počeo pozivati posjetitelje da naprave nešto slično. Danas je zasut s fotografijama posjetitelja. Svaki dan dobiva ih na desetke, ali na web uglavnom stavlja samo jednu dnevno. U međuvremenu je uvidio da bi se cijela stvar mogla razviti i na još nekoliko načina, pa namjerava objaviti knjigu koja bi obuhvatila neke od priča vezanih uz objavljene fotke, a razmišlja i o scenariju za film u koji bi se također pretočile neke od priča.
